CIEH Level 3 Award in PTLLS – Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector

This qualification has been developed for anyone entering teaching or training roles, or already in-service, who needs to achieve the minimum threshold status as a teacher in the lifelong learning sector (this includes adult and community learning and development, further education, libraries, archives and information services and work-based learning.

Programme duration, structure and outline content

The programme is delivered over five days and includes the three-day Training Skills and Practice course and assessment plus two additional days of training and assessment. Days four and five of the programme aim to extend the breadth and depth of delegates knowledge, skills and confidence to teach in the lifelong learning sector.

Outline of content for days 4 and 5:

  • Continuous improvement in training and teaching practice
  • Initial assessment and negotiation of individual learning plans
  • The role of the teacher in the lifelong learning sector
  • Legal requirements and professional standards
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Collaborative and interactive communications
  • Embedding functional skills (core elements of English, Maths and ICT) within specialist teaching and training
  • Assessment methods and approaches including record keeping
  • Evaluation of teaching
  • Continuous professional development

Assessment

Successful completion of the PTLLS qualification will require delegates to achieve the CIEH Award in Training Skills and Practice and complete two additional days training plus two written assignments as follows:

  1. The role and responsibilities of the teacher in the lifelong learning sector
  2. Review of a teaching session and development of two further session plans

We recommend that these assignments are submitted for assessment within four weeks following the completion of the five-day programme.

Delegate fees (for the full 5-day programme)

Fees are £750 (plus VAT) per delegate, inclusive of registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
